What if you paint it white and white wash the bricks?

I agree that the current wood stain and the brick don’t work well together. The cornices and dried flowers are not helping though. Are you tied to having the tv over the mantel? I think a darker colored stain on the wood- either deep brown or black, depending on the rest of your decor, would complement the brick better, along with various heights of items on the mantel.

That looks horrible. My first question is how the heck do you even watch TV in that position? As for updating the fireplace it does not seem all that dated to me and I would like to see the whole room before advising anything from what I see the space has traditional look so not sure how much you want to update at all. Please remove the dry flowers and their vases

I think the best update would be to put the tv over a console table or cabinet in another part of the room (at eye level for comfortable viewing) and hang a piece of art the size of the tv or a bit wider over the mantel. A rectangular would not compete with the curve of the hearth.
