Hi Kim, I am wondering if it might be worthwhile contacting the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre in Southern Ontario. They took over the Canadian Government's Agriculture Canada hardy rose breeding program in 2010 and it is my understanding that they have most of the germ plasm from that breeding program. Rosa Kordesii figured prominently in the breeding of the Explorer Series of roses in particular. I would guess that there is at least a chance that they might still have a plant for use in their breeding program. Good Luck, Rick

Mike Lowe had it, but I seem to remember he didn't sell it. It was a much prettier rose than I expected - much more to my taste than the Kordes climbers that descended from it. There may be someone connected with the New England Rose Society that has a piece of it, or knows where to find one.

I read it used to grow in The garden of roses of Legends and Romance but it is not there anymore but it is still in OH....Hurray !!

Perhaps that is where he procured it. I know he recently saved many of their rarities from obliteration.

Plumeria Girl, check with him. He has roses not listed on his rose list. Plus, he is just the nicest man! Can't wait to get some hard to find roses from him later this year and again next year.

Peter wrote " I've grown R. kordesii for more than twenty years in a field about a quarter mile from the rest of the garden where I planted a group of roses with instructions to sink or swim. It has thrived, with no care other than I mow around it a few times each year. I hiked out to see it today and it is fine. " Seems an ideal landscape subject, doesn't it?

Thanks, Jin. Yes ma'am, David is delighted! Not only will this enable them to determine where the gene providing resistance to race #8 of black spot came from, but it should also help provide the evidence of what really created Kordesii, not just what we have presumed created it.

That will be fascinating! I hope we will be able to read his results.
