Any texensis or texensis hybrid is worth trying!! And there is no particular reason for any lack of flowering except that some clems take longer to establish than others.

btw, I have had a Sweet Summer Love for going on 4 years that produced copious lush growth but never flowered until this summer. And not all that heavily :-) I am expecting much stronger results next season!

Wow 4 years ?! How incredibly patient !!

I really assumed one full season in the ground would get me something from her! I never had bad luck with a clem before that I couldn’t explain ( like a body bag root or bad location).

I purchased this plant twice. The first time around I could only find a puny little specimen and it did very little growing in its first year. It ultimately died when I tried to take it to my new property. I managed to hunt one down again last season. Again not a robust looking plant, especially when compared to the other clematis that were being offered at the same garden center. I planted it and it put out minimal growth. This spring I was thrilled to see that it had survived and was putting out a few stems. Still not a robust plant, but I did get five or six blooms from it and I was not disappointed. The flowers are beautiful. It certainly seems like a weak/slow grower compared to any other clematis I've grown but I am hopeful that in time it will bulk up. Worth having in my opinion.

Thank you both !! I find it to be so pretty in photos . Brushwood sold out as fast as can be but I’ll have to try one more time . Won’t be the first time I bought plants more than once to try again!

Nice to see you here again after your move. It must be difficult to have your gardens for such short times, but you leave your home with added beauty.

Thank you babs !! It was difficult to not feel homesick for my old setting . But now I’m recreating that garden in a much smaller scale , and really enjoy the zone 9 plants I have never seen before. I recently bought a stephanotis vine and have never smelled anything so wonderful!! I know I’ll have to embrace the low water use landscaping too, but for now I’m buying my favorite roses and clematis again , and learning as I go. It’s been fun ! :)

Agree with comments on slow growth, I have 2 from different sources, one is in a pot, one in the ground. I have more flowers on the potted one, which I moved to a sunnier location this Spring. They do get better year on year.

I’ve only had mine for one year and she hasn’t done anything yet. Apparently next year she’ll probably still be napping so hopefully the following year I’ll have a pic to show you

I bought one from Joy Creek Nursery last year and liked it so much that I got another from Silver Star Vinery this year. Check early to see if they have them again next year.

Both were strong plants, both had several blooms the year they were planted, and both had a light re-bloom. The first one is in a slightly raised bed, and survived the polar vortex with -25 degree temps. (I'm in zone 5b-6a.)

They're supposed to be planted in full sun, but one of mine gets full sun to mid-summer and partial shade part of the summer with more in the fall, and the other gets morning, noon, and a little very late afternoon sun in the summer.
