What’s going wrong? String of pearls help needed!

I bought a lovely string of pearls and since having it, I’ve followed watering guidelines etc, but the majority of them have shrivelled up.

I’m going to follow propagation guides to replant the healthy stems, but I’ve found these brown hardish knuckles on a lot of them and can’t find anywhere what they might be and if this could be causing the damage?

any help would be much appreciated!
