1. Is a Wisteria 2. Is Euonymus alatus.. The fact that you were given all those seedlings is indication of the ease with which they self sow all over the place. Neither worth keeping.

Flora has the ID's correct. But, one person's weed is another's beautiful plant.

It should be noted that depending on location, both are considered to be invasive species.....especially the euonymus, which I would never recommend planting.

Yes. My comment wasn't based on aesthetics. Both are beautiful. Neither is invasive over here and they are no trouble at all. But that's not the case in much of the US. The Euonymus for one is a listed invasive species in NJ.

Wisteria will spread it's vines everywhere, at least in the US east.

There's places back East where Japanese maples pop up too much also. The common denominator between all of these is that they are of E Asian origin, enjoy the similar climate and soil conditions of E North America.

we don't have any but we have an old, dead tree on the far side of the yard that we were gona remove but we figured why cover it with vines til then.

on the other hand I have a friend who's property is being eaten alive by wisteria. its gorgeous but he pulls it up by the truck load every year. every year he brings us a bunch and every year it dies before taking!

anyway I think that's a sign... maybe wisteria isnt for us!

Yes it is a bummer to have to dispose of plants, but you will be saving yourself and the environment much grief.
