Coral Aloe (Aloe striata) should do well in Phoenix. It did well for me in Tucson until an extremely severe freeze killed it. They prefer a bright shade, such as against the north side of a house, or under a tree. They can take some direct sunlight in the morning, if they are well-shaded from noon onward, and the low morning light coming through them from behind is particularly pretty. Yes, they need to be kept try. If you see black dots begin to appear in the leaves, it is a sign of too much water (internal rot), and may be too late to save. If in doubt, don't water. I water weekly at most in the dry heat of May and June, I skip watering if monsoons are good. I water alternate weeks in spring and fall, and never water in winter. One note, if the flowers came up as contorted curls, the plant has a virus, so discard them and plant some other unrelated plant in that spot. Don't forget the option of planting in a large pot (they get pretty big and heavy), to give you more location options. If potting, use a bagged cactus/palm soil, and follow the same watering regimen described above. It is a beautiful plant, so give it another go!

Thanks Marco, I think I will have them replanted and have the drip turned off. I was also thinking about replacing with Aloe Rudikoppe - Little Gem as this one is supposed to bloom during the year except for the hot months. I just need to see if I can find some! There are so many varieties of Aloe!
