I like the idea. Usually the cabinets are done before the countertop. You might want to consider something with green undertones, that's how the granite counter is reading in the photo I see. A greenish grey would work well & complement the golden in the wood
trim & floor.

Thanks for your thoughts. I know that we are doing things backwards. I wasn’t planning on getting new cabinets. We did the countertop and backsplash thinking we would stop there, but after getting the new floor it just seems like too much wood. Since we are just getting them refaced, it won’t damage what we have already done.

Get some new hardware add molding at the top of wall cabs and do some window treatments. It's all coordinated now.....just finish w the details. White? Why? You'd be starting all over again....and spending beyond what is a reasonable investment here. It looks good for what it is in terms of layout/specs of cabs and appliances etc.

Here is another idea. These 30" high golden oak cabinets were stripped and stained with a darker shade and then were topped by unfinished decorative cabinets and crown molding that were stained to match. They were purchased from a big box store. As you can see, the trim is white and black accents were added in the kitchen and dining area to tie the countertops in. Black beadboard and shelves were added and topped by an upper cabinet to make a hutch.

Edited to add that the owner removed the cabinets to the left of the sink and added open shelves which you can see peaking out from the left side of the picture. If you don't want to do that, you could add glass to the cabinet over the peninsula.

As for modernizing..Oak is making a comeback. quite a big one. Mostly white quarter sawn,, but recently..

even this more heavily-grained kind, I can see it being used again more and more.

(which is not that important..important whether you yourself like it yourself or not..I'm not a huge fan of golden oak usually but your cabinets look pretty nice to me, I agree they're a good example, and refacing is very costly at least where I live and at the time I checked)

I'd break up all the wood with fabrics etc..a rug(a functional one for the kitcen of course)..ceramics..in short other colors/textures in accents. Also in the dining. Something in the middle of the table that introduces different material or/and color.

Arched upper doors are porbably considered by many "outdated"..they don't bother me much personally, which again is not important since the kitchen is yours, not mine.

I like the idea of greenish off white for the walls (or greenish tones in general)..yes you can find an off white for cabinets, will take some time in picking the right one..the walls most likely will have to be repainted anyway.

It's the question of how much you dislike the current finish/panel design and how much (time, effort, money) you're ready to spend in order to change it.

The cabinets around the window "hugging" it too tight..if you change, I'd address it, because this does bug me a bit. I find the window trim beautiful, ideally I'd want to give it more of a breathing space. I don't know whether and how will impact storage?..

Fitting some cabinets with glass-to me always a good idea, since they provide a bit of a visual break, and one can display dishes/whatever else he likes the most.

You all have great suggestions. I already made a deposit on the refacing, so my question is how do you think the off white cabinets will look considering that I have oak trim.

It will depend on the particular shade of off white that the refacing company offers. Then I think you might need to add some complimentary wood accessories on the counters to pull it all together, but you would just have to see how it looks once done.

Do you have any white/off white in your home? If not, then I’d go very creamy, not bright.
