Will there be a tv going on this wall?

For the shelves, when I decorate a shelf I like to make sure I use wood, metal, glass, and greenery. The over use of one material can make it look thrown together. Also adding height to some pieces adds a balanced look. Find pieces that reflect you and what you love! Are you keeping this wall color? Painting a lighter, brighter color will make your shelves pop!

Also, I think painting the back of the niche above the fireplace a lighter color than the walls, and adding art work would
look nice. There looks to be room between the niche and fireplace. Adding a mantle would make the space look complete. You can buy one, or there are many tutorials online to make your own.

nice! I never thought about adding a mantle. That space looks odd to me so maybe the mantle would bring it together. The TV will not be there. I am keeping the same wall color for now but would consider painting the wall of the niche areas. What lighter color would you suggest?

I wouldn’t do anything with painting the niche until you paint the existing wall color. But some recommendations would be SW canvas tan, SW accessible beige, SW neutral ground. I don’t know what other finishes you have in your home that you would need to take in consideration before painting.

@Reeses would those colors be recommendations for wall colors or the niche accent?

Or, if you’re a fan of shiplap, you can shiplap inside the niche. It would tie in the white of the shelves. It would also be a good way to hide those outlets. I would definitely get an electrician out before you do that though. Just to cap off the outlets before you cover them. I really don’t know if anything can happen if you cover them, but getting an electricians opinion would be best for piece of mind.

The Shiplap looks great!

I think it would brighten your room up quite a bit. Then, you can worry about wall color later down the road.
