I was a little hesitant about the ferns but it came as a pre made mix of seeds and spores in sphagnum. I want the background to grow in as a green wall, so I will have to pluck out whatever gets too big.

I was thinking of creating something like that! I love frogs too. Did you use a fish tank of some sort or a turtle tank? Grow lights and a fan?

The tank is an Exo Terra 18 X 18 W X 36 H, Mist King system with 2 nozzles, LED grow light I found at Home Depot. There is a PC fan for circulation but I don't really like they way it is now, I'm still working on that. I also have a water pump for a waterfall which starts at the top and ends in the bottom left corner. It's hard see in photos.

I watched a bunch of You Tube videos on Bio Active Vivariums for info on how to set it up. Basically the bottom of the tank has a layer of Hydroton pellets to collect water. I put some rubber pads under the front to lean the tank back so the water level at the back is a little deeper than the front. I blocked off a little square in the back corner for the pump, covered with plastic egg crate, landscape fabric, then river stones. The tubing and wire run up behind the background. The tank came with a foam background that I added to with spray foam, coco fiber, lava rocks to make the waterfall and some drift wood .

Then there is a layer of bark and charcoal , then a layer of sphagnum moss, then leaf litter. I added in some mini isopods and springtails to help clean the tank and as a food supplement and some beneficial bacteria. The water continuously runs down the plants on the background which helps keep the water clean and aerated, and keeps the humidity up. The mister is fed from a 1 gallon bucket filled with collected rain water. All of these materials were purchased on line from people who sell amphibians and reptiles.

I guess that would be a vivacious vivarium. Thanks for the pix.

James, wow. You put a lot of time and work into that for sure. I think I better find a place for mine and see how yours does before I even start. You are going to have fun with that, even may look at it every day. Love it
