Not an issue - but then I’ve worked in commercial kitchens where I suppose common sense still exists (shrug)

Who leaves an oven door open? How would you not see it before walking into it? We are awaiting delivery of a range with a door that swings side to side and also has 2 traditional doors. My family has never accidentally walked into an oven door and I really don't anticipate that they will with the new set up.

I love a side swing,set higher on the wall. I think it’s easier to use. I actually have a French door style (not enough room to do a side swing) and would not trade it for the world...love it.

I have the Bosch side opening oven and I love it. So easy to access items directly in front of the oven versus from the side.

Oven door swings back quite a way and so it's not as if it is at a 90 degree angle when you stand in front of it. I can't imagine accidentally burning myself on the door. There is a poster who will sometimes come on and warn about the dangers of dropping hot food on your feet - something I have never experienced but I wear shoes in the kitchen anyway because it's common sense.

As with any appliance, I would suggest finding a store that has one installed. I was almost certain I wanted one based on reading about it because it made such ergonomic sense but testing it in person sealed the deal - especially since I could also test regular bottom open ovens to compare at the same time.

I too have the Bosch oven, side opening door and love it. The door has never gotten in my way.

I have the Bosch as well and I do understand your concern. However, even opened gently it opens well beyond 90 deg and can open much farther. It hasn’t ever swung back on me although I suppose theoretically that could happened if you opened it with a lot of force. Never had an issue with bumping into it. Very happy with it.

The wonderful advantage of a side opening door, is that you could stand right in front of the oven when you pull out the hot dishes. Much better control than leaning over a hot oven door.
