Curious about the rock paths

What's the best way to prep a rock path so weeds aren't popping up so soon ? Base layer, rock type, etc? thanks!

    3" or so of compacted base rock under the gravel. But weed seeds will get into the gravel and sprout especially if organic matter or soil collects in it providing a place for them to get a foothold.
