I suggest sketching the floor plan out on graph paper (including windows and doors), and make cutouts of your furniture to scale. That way you can play around with moving furniture, without actually moving furniture.

If you are moving from a bigger space to a smaller one, you might need to change up your furniture. A couch and hair might work better than the sectional, for example. But playing around with the cutouts should give you a pretty good idea if things will fit, before you haul them up the to apartment.

Thank you, Ann! We would need to buy all new furniture regardless. I was more so hoping to see if someone would be better than me at visualizing the space... ex: does the couch face the “west” wall or the “south” wall? If we added a bistro table or a bar with stools for our dining area where should that go?

It’s more of a design oriented question than specific furniture dimensions. We’re trying to increase the natural flow of the space and make the most use of the space we have

Bedroom: headboard should go on the west wall. Anything else - depends on what you have.

Living space: The doors make furniture placement a bit of a challenge - you want your table near the kitchen, but not in front of the patio door. I think a bistro table (great choice for a small space) should go in the little nook between kitchen and closet.

TV is a bit tricky too, with the big windows. Usually we want a couch against the wall, but that doesn't leave a good place for the TV, unless you put it in front of the windows (which depends on how big the windows are). The best place for the TV is the west wall.

Do you have guests often, or is it mostly just the two of you? In the living room, a love seat or small couch and recliner might be plenty. I have had L-shaped couches (sectionals), and they tend to be HUGE! They work best when you don't have traffic paths moving through the room. The couch can face west, serving to better define the living room space. A sofa table behind it can be used for decorating or storage, or for a lamp.

Which is the other tricky thing about putting living room furniture "in space" - if you want a lamp nearby, you have to figure out how to not trip over cords.

For the bedroom, I’m not sure what your windows are like, but we love having our bed in front of the window! It allows us to place a dresser with mirror, and a taller chest of drawers, along the other walls. And we feel like we are living in an aerie. In your bedroom, you could place it alongside the window, too, with walking room, head against the right-hand wall.

A king bed will be tight in the bedroom, consider a queen.
