I think that the bed wall looks so finished, and the plain window wall looks unfinished, some drapes will help to complete the look. It can be tricky to mix patterns, but when it's done correctly it can really warm up a space. Go with solid if you are unsure.

I agree matching the drapes to the wall color would be best you can’t have both blackout and sun peeking through so acombo of the drapes over the binds might be enough for hubby.The walls look to be a creamy beige on my monitor so no white or gray.

How wide is the window? Not sure how great curtains would look on a short window that far from the ceiling. If you hang them lower, the wall will look squat and if you hang them higher, you'll have way too much wall space between the rod and top of window. Maybe a Roman shade would be a better option.
