Beautiful Cloudless Sulphur Chrysalis

I just wanted to share a photo of the first fall Cloudless Sulphur caterpillar and it's amazing chrysalis. I have not seen many Cloudless chrysalides but none of them looked like this.





Nature is more amazing than fiction. :)

    Beautiful! I had one like this a few years ago. Took me a while to figure out what is was :)

    Here is the butterfly that emerged from that pink chrysalis.




    Notice how golden yellow it is.

    Here is a Cloudless Sulphur where the caterpillar did not eat the yellow flowers of the Bahama Senna, it only had the new green leaves to eat. Notice how all stages are more green with the butterfly being more chartreuse than golden yellow.







    I guess this supports "you are what you eat". :)

    Everybody thinks that the ingested color chemicals are what color the caterpillars. Could be so. I offer the alternative thought that instead it could be the caterpillars' camouflage process.
