should I seperate two fig trees in one pot

I bought a fig tree from a friend last year it was about a year old, 4-5 feet tall with two major branches, unknown type. I put them into a good size pot (20-gallon; only learned later that i should gradually increase the pot size). They produced about 20 figs this year and lost about 8. To my surprise the two branches are different fig trees: one produced large green fig with pink flesh and really sweet. The other one produced a bit later in the season with brown figs (I think more likely to be Celeste). Should I let the two trees stay in one big pot or should I separate them now? I am afraid if they need to be separated it would getting more difficult as they grow.. Thanks!
