Forcing a rose to go own root?

I’ve read about northerners planting a grafted rose deep, so that it might root on its own as well as the it made me wonder if I could do this with a rose on a less-desirable rootstock here?

I was thinking if I nicked the basals, and maybe even applied rooting hormone, right before planting it, it might strike its own roots, to sustain the plant when the rootstock fizzled out?

Has anybody done anything like this?

Thank you in advance ! :-)
