I've grown several bush or non-vining clems over the years and I have generally just left them to sprawl among the other plants. The exception is Clematis recta (one of the parents of Violet Stardust), which I stake up with twigs as unobtrusively as possible. In most cases they ramble much like geranium Rozanne does and kind of creep up and into other nearby plants.

I have also used a support system for durandii, simply because it is such a vigorous grower and produces such long stems. This season I grew it up through an inverted tomato cage and let cascade over the top.....I ran out of any other suitable trellising options :-) Not a great look and need to figure an alternate plan for next season.

I have integrifolia 'Caerulea'. I use one of those small round hoop "cages" to keep it more upright. Sorry I don't have any pics.

Aww thank you popmama! I hope you get pics of it next year and I will be looking for that one because I adore blue. Were the flowers actually true blue?

I looked at pics online and some looked more lavender but that can be the light they are photographed in or the monitor it is viewed on.

I will post some pics next year. Funny, I don't remember exactly how "blue" they are. I would say very close to blue. But they might have a purplish hue.

mxk3, I tried to post earlier but I was having continuing issues getting pictures to stick.

I love my Rooguchi. It has perfect little "bell" blooms from July into September. It is vigorous and pest free.
