Being new makes no difference. Did you wait for the picture to fully resolve before pressing submit?

It can take awhile :-) Make sure the photo has fully uploaded, comes into clear focus and loses any grey tones before hitting 'submit'. Some find it much easier to post a photo in the comments section.

Your weed leaves looks like a sedge of some kind but since it's been chopped off there aren't any good identifying features.

So it is indeed a weed? If that is the case, I have a bunch of it on my lawn. Too much to pull by hand. I'm in Boston, and wanted to overseed. Can I use roundup on the areas with these weeds and if I do can I still overseed?

Joe, how about taking a picture of what it looks like in the lawn. Seeing its growth habit in situ will help with an ID.

I cut the lawn low to overseed. But here is a pic of it in the lawn. It's in the middle of the picture.

Does anyone else think they could be an Allium species? Joe does the cut foliage have any scent?

No noticeable scent. I found some that were uncut.

Seeing it less hacked about I can see it's not a sedge. Nor is it an allium. It's a grass but I'm afraid I know nothing about American grasses.
