Distance between table and island

Is 51 inches enough between the dining table and island? There are no bar stools on that side. I want it to be roomy to get by as this is a main thoroughfare. There might be dining chairs or a bench there. Thanks

You need 60”-72” between back to back seating. Depends on traffic patterns. If there is no seating, you need 48-60”, depending on if there is traffic flow through there or not.

I don’t know if this helps or not, but I know visuals help me. I have two tractor stools at the end of my island. So from the end of the granite top island to the edge of the kitchen table is 63”. It is a major walkway, but it’s just the two of us. So far no problems. We entertain frequently and if it’s just a casual get together we eat in the kitchen. I pull the table away from the windows and there is a bench there for two more people. Still enough room to get by. Best of luck to you.

The half of my island where there is no seating is directly across from my table/chairs. The table-edge and island-edge are currently 56" away from each other.

50" from back of chair to island when no one is sitting at it.

38" from back of chair to island when I'm comfortably sitting at it

The 56" between table and island works to be an adequate amount of room and my walkway there feels very spacious.

For your reference, my kitchen is 20' X 20' ...island is 9' x 4' and table is 72" long with 6 chairs around it.

I have about this same amount of space between my kitchen table and breakfast bar ... and I definitely wish I had more. As you say, mine is a main thoroughfare (leads to the back porch /yard /grilling area). This isn't a spot to skimp.

I could make it larger if I moved the island over. but then end of the island would be 6 inches different than the end of cabinets. It’s the long “feature” wall of the kitchen that is seen fron the great room. This would make the walkway on the other side of the island 3.5 feet which included a dishwasher opening towards the island. That would be on the short arm of the “L” shaped kitchen. Thoughts? should the island line up esthetically?

Can you post a floor plan with measurements?

It doesn’t Seem to load them. Just tried and then goes to blank page. Let me know if it shows up.

    I don't see the floorplans.

Houzz is maybe having some tech trouble right now because I had trouble posting a photo earlier too.

What finally worked was finding photo, selecting "choose", then after the pic was up (but faded and light/not technically loaded because it was faded) I put my cursor in another area below to type more and when I pushed enter/return to move the cursor down further.... the pic loaded (got darker).
