The first is a broadheaded sharpshooter, a type of leaf hopper. The second is the larva of the highly beneficial lacewing. The larvae are voracious predators of small, soft bodied insects such as aphids.

You're not going to be able to grow poppies etc. indoors anyway unless you have a very bright and cool greenhouse to put them in.

Thanks Rhizo. You do know the bugs very well. They were shown the door so I am poorer for not hosting the lacewing larva.

Embothrium, the poppy seedlings were volunteers and I was experimenting to see if I could get them to bloom during early winter indoors. I have grow lights and some space outside south facing windows where they were doing reasonably well till they got some mildew and my overzealous spraying did them in. Still have a couple of volunteers, albeit much younger than the ones that met their untimely demise. Lets see who gives up first, me or them. :)
