Tranquillity, a David Austin white rose

last modified: 6 years ago

Tranquillity (Ausnoble), an English shrub rose, bred by David C. H. Austin (UK, before 2012) and released in UK (2012). When I tried to select between several gorgeous David Austin white roses, I picked this rose because of its beautiful name. When I sit on a bench in my garden at the end of a work day, I'd like to have a feeling of tranquillity. There's an interesting note about the spelling of this rose's name. I wonder if David Austin was smilling when he picked out the name for this rose and wanted to test our understanding of the American and English spellings.

"Tranquillity" with two "L" is an English spelling and the name of this David Austin white rose. The 3.5-inch blooms start out light yellow and age to white with mild apple fragrance.

"Tranquility" with one "L" is a US spelling and the name of a US white rose (CLEmulti) bred by John Clements (US, 2004) and released in the same year. The 4-inch blooms have light pink shading to near white with strong citrus, damask, myrrh fragrance. Helen

So gorgeous, Helen! I agree with sultry, I love the pink buds that open up to beautiful white blooms!

You have some gorgeous Austins, I was wondering how many different ones you have, and if they all do good for you? I sure enjoy your rose presentations, such a good way to show off a rose!

I have 2 of these gorgeous roses. The only downside to this rose is it is thrips sensitive.

Gorgeous pictures like always :). You make me want every rose you post. This one is a very very vigorous rose in my garden trowing 6 feet canes on first year. It doesn’t mind being pruned. Lots of blackspot here and thrips but I’ll be keeping it for now because those are gorgeous white blooms when they are clean. She also blooms well.

Wonderful pics Helen, I love the white against dark background, the prefect form, blemish free...no easy feat for a white rose.

    Thank you everyone.

SaraAnn, I have 43 DAs, and most of them are doing well in my garden.

Karen, I believe most white rose will be sensitive to thrips.

mas_loves_roses1, I'm glad that you like it.

Dianela, I agree that this rose doesn't mind being pruned. I only have this rose and Pope John Paul II as white roses in my garden.

Ben, agree with the blemishes in white roses, lol. Helen

I am sure a sucker for white roses, except for some reason I never cared for John f Kennedy

I always love the look of Jaqueline du pre. I think white just pops in the garden and sets everything else off

My Tranquilty planted in March potted has bloom sparingly and dirty white. Now, it is not doing so well. The shrub is wilting and some branch are dried. I sprayed this early on (thrip) and just gave it more water. This Dallas heat has been rough. I am new with DA's and I find them to be more sensitive to our heat. It wilt so easy and more needy. I am finding Queen Elizabeth and Tournament of Roses next to them have not had any issues and strong canes. Let's see how this first season goes.

Tina, I agree that DA roses are sensitive to high heat. Have you thought about moving them to a morning sun afternoon shade location? BenT in this forum has a secret of making all his roses look beautiful in Texas heat. You can ask him to share his secret :) Helen

Yes I have chatted with Ben. I forgot to ask him how he manages them. But, they are crowded in a north facing front yard that gets shade from afternoon heat. I may need to move a few out once I keep track of the how each performs. So far, LOS, Oliva, Carding mill is doing well. I don't think BenT has many white DA as I can recall. He also, has non DA as well.
