New kitchen table for space

Hello all,

We are looking for a new kitchen table to fit in the space. We have more of a modern taste. We do have kids so a table that can handle scuffs and water cups would be great. My husband thinks only a round table would fit in the space because of the Bay window, what do you all think?? We are also going to replace the light fixture. thanks!! The current table is 48" around.

Round looks great. Try offsetting your chairs 1/8 turn around the table so the backs aren't up against the walls and cabinets. I know that doesn't help with your shopping, but try it and I think you'll be happier with the size and shape if the chairs were arranged differently.

eta: Would you consider going light? This might be a little too modern, depending on what light fixture you select and what the rest of your home looks like. The cabinets look more transitional from what I can see. 48" from Room and Board...composite quartz top:

It's available with lots of choices for the top, including a light laminate, which would be very durable with kids:
There is also a light marbled ceramic top, which looks quite nice

great ideas! I will try that with the chairs. We do have more of a modern taste but I don't know what to do with the cabinets to make them look more modern. We have so much white in our kitchen, Including all of the Crown molding that I thought it would be nice to go with the mid Brown or a darker color. thoughts?

I personally think a lighter look would be better with what we can see of your home. Your floors are quite dark and I think that's plenty of dark wood. But you should do what you think you'll like best. Why are you replacing what you have?

If you show more of the surrounding area in some more pics, perhaps others will weigh in with their ideas.

I will try to post a pic later of area. The cabinets are white and the Crown molding is white so I clot some variation would be good. I will post the pictures later. The current table we have was painted twice by may. It did not cure properly the 2nd time and it's been sticky for months so we are going to start over;)

Well the very dark looks fine and if it goes with the rest of your decor/furnishings, then maybe you'll be happier with something similar.

I don’t know what length that half wall is, but banquette seating against that wall with a round table and two chairs may look and work well for your space. We have a small breakfast nook and banquette seating has been a great solution for us. I bought ours through Ballard Designs. A custom made one could also be an option.

    Hi Robby,

Very interesting. Do you have a picture?

You would have one “bench” against your half wall. I just thought of you having to move your light over the new location of the table, unfortunately. We have had this for years and it has been reupholstered once. It really maximizes this small space.

Your dark table does look very nice with the rest of your furnishings! You have a lovely home.
