Thanks @SDG and @nidnay. I considered the flush one as well, but my aunt told me she has to use a little tool because of her arthritis so I changed it to this one that you can use the back of the hand instead of a finger. Now I’m having second thoughts because this one will stick up a little.

Where is this installed up on the counter top? We've always had a switch under the sink in the cabinet (in 2 homes now) and are doing it again with our current reno, wouldn't have it any other way.

@itsourcasa thanks; don’t think I want to open a cabinet. My current kitchen has the switch under the counter left of the sink, which I’m used to and like just fine. But, this is the more current "look". It would be installed in the countertop just by the sink.

I only switch it once or twice a day if that after all meal clean up so it's never a big deal to open the cabinet door for a few seconds. I've seen the button ones get grimey so I've never been a fan. I'd prefer the one you posted though over the button you push (water on hands from doing dishes gets into the button area).

I certainly would not put it in a cabinet in fact it probably is against code . Everyone on here knows I hate disposals but if you must then do what is the easiest to get to in case something not intened goes in

I thought every garbage disposal switch in the USA was on the wall behind the sink or adjacent to it.

Had under sink, hated it, push button the sink, hated it, only reasonable solution is hardwired on the wall with GFCI switch..

@Patricia thanks. I compost most food waste, but there are times I need a disposal.
@wdcruise apparently these switches are the latest thing!

Just don't tell the Chinese about these new-fangled disposal switches. The USA can't afford to lose any more intellectual property!

@Patricia Colwell Consulting why would it be against code? Curious as we have had it and know a lot who do here in FL. I can't think of a reason why it would be against code, in fact it seems much more safe when people are in your kitchen looking for a light switch and accidentally switch it. Under the sink nobody would think it was for anything other than the disposal.

I have been using these air switches for the last ten years or so. In that time I've had one die (of course in one of my rentals)

I hate under the cabinet because you are fumbling around with wet slimy hands trying to find the switch (obviously with time it becomes second nature) Switches on the wall get confused with light switches so at three in the morning you want a little light to get a glass of water and suddenly the whole house is awake because the garbage disposal is running mysteriously.

I didn't want to deal with it on my countertop so we actually installed it in the cabinet door underneath the sink. Love it there!

Grandpa: "Aaaargh! You work me up! What's that racket?"

Grandma: "I couldn't see inside the kitchen and accidentally turned on the disposal."

Grandpa: "You thought that switch above the sink was the light switch?"

Grandma: "Yup."

Grandpa: "What did you think the switch near the door was for?"

Grandma: "The disposal, of course."

If you’re concerned about aesthetics because of the switch being raised rather than flush, there are more decorative options out there in different styles and finishes....

Grandma: "I see you bought a new disposer switch that I won't confuse with the light switch."

Grandpa: "Yup. Only cost $87."

Grandma: "Eighty-seven dollars! Are you out of your mind?

Grandpa: "Hey, I could have bought the $237.75 one!"

Had mine installed behind the sink so it would;dn't get hit by little hands or by accident. Love that it's so accessible and basically invisible- mine is just a small bump set into the countertop.

I love mine. it's just a small bump on the counter top. Works great!

I have the flush one, and i like the look, but the button does occasionally get stuck under its own lip, so you have to push again to turn off. am intrigued by the raised ones!

Yeah, why have an immediate switch that keeps your onion-covered hands in the sink when you could drip those same onion-covered hands onto the floor, your cabinet handles and fronts? Bet that under cabinet switch needs cleaning too.

Joseph, there’s this new (to you apparently) invention called a dish towel. And soap and water lol. No slime or dripping, I switch the disposal very last.

Once you have had an air switch, you will ask why you EVER had anything else. The only thing worse than not having an air switch, is NOT having a disposal : )
