I'd love to know the length of this kitchen--it looks like a 30" range, but is the dishwasher full-size? Also, is there a small gap between the range and the wall, and if so, why? Thanks for posting fabulous pictures of small spaces!

Hi Janet - You're correct, it's a 30'' Samsung slide-in range. The dishwasher is an 18'' Bosch dishwasher. I installed a 3'' space between the range and wall for a few reasons. (also to note, that space has a dark gray filler panel and a 3'' wide piece of countertop on top). Here's why... 1) the slide-in range cooktop has a small lip on both sides, and that lip really wants to sit on a piece of countertop, 2) without the 3'' space, there could be a conflict at the floor where a baseboard is installed, oven door potentially hitting that baseboard when opened, 3) in existing buildings, walls are never truly straight, so the oven door could scrap against a wall that's uneven when opened, 4) I have this 3'' filler panel space on the other side of the oven, and sink as well, and just felt like the detail was consistent. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

That makes so much sense, I appreciate the detailed reply. I hadn't really realized that the specific appliance should be considered when planning the space, so that tip helps a lot! I neglected to ask the total length of the kitchen from wall to wall--it looks like about 90", is that right? Also, is an 18" DW able to handle a dinner party for 4? Thanks again for your help!

You're spot on, that overall length is just about 90''. I loved the 18'' dishwasher, it just felt so efficient. If you get one, you'll learn how to use it to work for you. If you're having a dinner party with 4 or even 6 people, I would find myself running quick loads midway through cooking, or just before serving, and then another afterwards. I never felt bad about running a small load because it uses water & energy very efficient. I'd recommend getting one with the cutlery slide-out tray on top, that's what our Bosch had, saves some space on the bottom rack for more dishes

Since you've been so indulgent, can I ask one more question? Besides a refrigerator, do you have other prep space in this kitchen? I will have a 12" bar seating area along the opposite wall, and I probably have 96" total length, but otherwise that might be it.
