Love your horse painting! I have two very large horse paintings dominating my living area so understand the attraction. I agree with tartan... what would YOU want to see there? Another large painting? A series of framed vintage photos (that's what I did on my staircase wall)? A tapestry or tribal rug hung as art? The possibilites are only limited by your imagination.

Thanks so much....you guys are helping me get my thinking cap on! I love trees, leaves, forrests but perhaps a tapestry or tribal rug would work, too:-). I also have a collection of watercolours by a Quebec artist (flowers)...maybe I should have them all framed a similar way and expose them on that larger wall?? I also have a caricature of my first Bernese Mountain dogs and would like the same artist-Maggie Brudos to do another one of my last one who passed away almost 1 year ago....they would complement the horsies in that they are also brightly painted but I'm wondering if it would be too much?? Is there such a thing? Or, is art a very personal thing? And it really does not matter whether your wall colours or furniture or decor match up? Thanks for that tip. I have never thought of placing my pups in the foyer....now I will be getting another caricature done soon, too....can 2 paintings (same size) of pups hang over the bench, side by side? Again, a big THANKS!

Depends on the size of them. Are they just on canvas or framed? The two of them hung with one hands' breadth between them should not be wider than 75% of the bench's width for a balanced look.

Can we see your horses on the other wall? Sounds like your wheels are turning and you have some great ideas for the stairway wall.

Here's my horse pieces. They don't "match" color wise, but do have a continuity that goes beyond subject matter, and being done by the same artist does seem to facilitate that. I don't think it matters though. If you love it and it speaks to you, it'll work.

The flow of intense to softer color was not a consciously planned thing, but it's how things felt right to me as I began to decide what went where in this house. You will find a sort of rhythm to the process that feels right to you too, I'll bet.
