Scandinavian Fireplace Ideas

I'd like to retile and update our fireplace. It's a little odd as it juts out at an angle, but serves as a pseudo separation between the dining and living room in our townhome. I think I'd like for the hearth tile and tile surround to be different, and I'd like to keep a mantle but was thinking of something thicker and stained to match the wood floors. Our style trends towards Scandinavian.... not sure what to do here... Any ideas on how to update this appreciated!

I would forego the mantel all together and do a stone tile all the way to the ceiling, and all the way to the corners on both sides. Slate or another larger format stone would be pretty.

The problem is that the hearth tile doesn't go all the way to the corner wall and I think it would look weird if the wall tile extended beyond the hearth tile or if it went all the way to the ceiling but not all the way to the corner of the wall. Am I overthinking it?

Rachel Lee I think the OP is talking about the tile on the floor.

I would tile the 3 sides and extend the tile on the floor around as well.

Yes, extend the floor tile, too. It looks weird now...unfinished with the mantel extending beyond both the wall and floor tile.
