I am ordering Lemon Star which is new for me.

I'm just ordering some replacements of a few that were infected with that dang virus :-(((( Opal Star, Mystica, Temptation, Pajama Party, Fire Dancer, LaPaz and Half & Half.

I'm still not sure whether I should keep it or give it to my mother where I could see it flowering. I just have too many bulbs...

Hello friends! I already ordered wild amazon from fluvel and received 2 huge bulbs, You normally know from RC as jumbo bulbs. I can recommend fluvel! Will keep You informed about their behavior. lots of greets

Yes, they have good quality bulbs that are usually very big. But I think they don't send overseas...

Bought another Chico, Flamed Queen and for some reason Stardust and wish I had ordered Provence instead. Hopefully Fred will share some pictures. Lots of seedlings developing so maybe next year lol.

I am a newby to hippeastrums.

This fall I got three types of Sonatinis: Fire Dancer, Lemon Sorbet, and Ballerina. Ballerina, a double pink, is the last one to bloom, also planted last, with the first blossom just now starting to show color. All were impressive, but Fire Dancer, single red, was beyond amazing. I put three of the small bulbs in a single 6" azalea pot, and got three flower stems out of each of them, with a maximum of 16 blossoms open at once at its peak! I can't claim anything more than watering them in and light fertilization. They just plain went to town on their own! They do seem to like my light garden.

They are also all small enough to fit under my light garden, and it looks to me like there are going to be offsets on several of them already this first year; so hopefully I will also have multiplication going into the coming year.

These are absolutely amazing pot plants, and they are all showing leaves too; so maybe I can carry them over as perennial potted plants. They do not look to be difficult plants to handle, although there would have been no way for me to carry them over until Christmas, not this year. (For that I have some bulb jars and several of the paper whites already heavily rooted and starting to stretch and more in reserve.)

My green things are a real sanity blessing this year.

Wonderful start to hippeastrum!!! I have to agree that they are definitely a blessing and help keep us saner during crazy times. You should definitely be able to hold them over as pot plants. Remember that they usually bloom in the spring unless you buy them prepped to bloom for the holidays.

The Sonatinis I got from Brent and Becky came from South Africa. They were already starting when their shipment arrived sometime back. Only the very last ones are just now coming into bloom. None of them would have ever made it to Christmas. They are all growing leaves and a couple are already starting to show pups. They are short enough to fit under my light garden with the tubes raised somewhat. What is not to love!

I followed someone's advise from around here and put three of the bulbs of Fire Dancer in a 6" azalea pot. They are small enough to fit with a little room left over. Each one sent up three flower spikes. At peak there were 16 open blossoms all at once on top of that 6" pot and none of the stems needed staking. I have never seen anything like it!

They look to be relatively easy to carry over in the pots, too. I do not see the first indication of any rot and lots of leaves starting to show; so we shall see how well they work for me. Whatever, I have already gotten my money's worth of pleasure and more out of these few bulbs.

BTW I am running my lights on a long day length using a timer.

I just received three bulbs of Fire Dancer from Brent & Becky's and one out of three felt a bit mushy so I peeled back a few layers to find a little rot. As soon as I got to a white and firm layer, I dusted it with sulpher powder and I'll pot them up this weekend. So far I have ordered 12 new bulbs...Oh God Help Me!!!!!

That's so funny .Fred. I did the same thing! Just received 3 bulbs from White Flower Farms and waiting for the Wild Amazone I ordered thanks to Anja. Hoping that they turn out to be Wild amazone ..we will see.

Hey Fred, I got my Brent and Becky Sonatinis quite a while back. They are well past the main flush. Fire Dancer fit beautifully three to a 6" azalea pot, and then all three sent up three stems. The very last one is now blooming. I got 9 of them. Never did that many hippies myself since my teenage years.... So now in my old age I'm a flower child again. I guess there are worse faits.

My and gardening go back a long time...

Including a couple of years of truck gardening and a very small commercial nursery, but hippeastrums are new for me. Flowers and ornamentals are good for the soul, and vegetables are good for the body; so one really can't lose.

Wow! Two beautiful bulbs of Wild Amazone with scapes!!! can't wait to see the flowers!!!

The last of my 'hippies' for this year. This is Sonatini 'Ballerina'

So, the 2 bulbs of Wild amazone had scapes already pushing out in their packages. One was completely broken off and the other was damaged. I taped the one that was partially separated and this is the flower. The second has one developing .

The bulbs are large with leaves and have some roots . The e flower is very waxy and just opened so it might improve, we will see.

Hm. Lets wait with our judgement untill we see a flower that hasn't developed inside a package, Jody. My bulb has no leaves but two scapes growing...

She's quite pretty and I'm sure she'll improve with her next "normal" flowering. Over the years I've gotten so many that had prematurely flowered in transit and looked like they were shoved through a knot hole, only to flower beautifully the next time around. Keep us posted.

Fred it's so disappointing to be looking forward to seeing this one and then having the scapes broken and or contorted. At least I had one healthy scape to look forward to. But then the last flower of the partially destroyed scape opened and I got to see an undamaged flower. So Anja I think you will be happy with it.

The other scape is still developing.

Fred that's so funny and so true, well maybe not so funny lol!!!

Here's the 2nd bulbs scape. The tip of the bloom was damaged but it opened with 6 flowers. The flower is much prettier in person as I wasn't able to show it's true color.

It looks actually even more beautiful than on the pictures online! My bulb has two scapes developing and now I'm looking forward to seeing it flower!!!

Thanks Fred it is pretty and the flowers opened together. Unfortunately I had it by an opened breezy window and with few roots to hold it, it blew over and broke off 4 of the 6 flowers:( at least I have 2 left to admire! :)
