It depends on the fixtures and the room please post some pics or at least a floor plan a bit about you style . Is this a master or a kids room? More info gets more help.

Photos of this space would help us give you better advice on what to do in your situation. But based on your initial description above, perhaps can lights (recessed lighting) as opposed to semi-flush mounts would work better in a long but narrow room.

I suggest using can lights. Adding anything else will further accentuate the angled ceiling.

I prefer lamps in a bedroom. Overhead lights generally have too much glare and create unflattering shadows.
