Hi! I have burning questions about Morning Glories. Maybe someone can answer.

Been studying MGs for a long time now, and have seen them morph into different cultivars here on the NJ Shore, zone 6. If Heavenly Blue MGs are planted along with another variety,they will reseed into most likely Grandpa Ott. I can never get Heavenly Blues to reseed into Heavenly Blue. The seed is all sterile. At least here it is. While Grandpa Ott will morph over and over into the same, or become a bindweed type flower, the Heavenly Blue stumps me. How in the world do the seed growers get a viable Heavenly Blue seed? What is the cross or hybridization? My lifetime question has never been answered. Hope someone can help.

But.. How do I get Heavenly Blue seeds?

The best way is to buy them :-) This cultivar is not sterile but has NEVER adapted to cold weather, so the later developing seeds are killed by the frosts and early germinating seeds are killed in the spring by the repeated thaws and re-freezes. They cannot reseed or morph into Grandpa Ott, as that is an entirely different species.

Seed vendors grow them under conditions that will maximize seed production - which you are unlikely to be able to duplicate in a garden setting - as well as to protect them from cross pollination.

I haven't to replant Heavenly Blue MG every year,it doesn't teseaf. ☹️
