Master Bathroom Vanity

last modified: 6 years ago

Need some advice...When we had our vanity cabinets made we made some calculation errors. With the center tower the bowls and the lights are not centered. We thought about having some new towers made (with less depth) and placed on the ends of the vanity and ditching the center one, but we do not have left over back splash cover where the tower in the middle is. Someone suggested moving the light fixtures, using smaller mirrors (centered over the bowls) and just adding hand towel rings on the sides of the mirrors, keeping the center tower. I'm just looking for any other options, if you can think of anything. TIA

Gosh... I think I would remove the center piece - it looks too small for the long run you have. You can remove the backsplash that is there - do a tower on each end and then do a nice tile splash between the 2...Something like this

But then I found this picture - you may be able to do this:

In the pic above they have columns on the ends and carry across the top with panels and trim. The sinks are off center but the lights are centered on the sinks...

    Good luck!

It's hard to be sure from the angle of the photo, but it looks like the sinks are centered above the double doors of the cabinets. (It also looks to me like the plumbing holes are NOT centered on that - hopefully that's just the photo. I would put your plumbing fixtures there, disconnected if necessary, just for visual reference as you plan.

I think the two pictures above are appealing but the second one has walls on both sides; not sure how that would translate in your space where you have one open side.

If you can do without the tower storage, consider removing it (and the backsplash), add two tall mirrors over the sinks that are the width of the base cabinet doors. Then add a feature tile backsplash and use 3 eye-catching sconces, one in the center and one on each side of the mirrors. Hopefully that might draw attention away from the sink placement.

    Good luck!

It doesn't appear to me that the sinks (nor plumbing) are centered with the double cabinet doors...which I could imagine is so frustrating. Would you consider having the countertop remade or is it more economical to reconfigure the cabinet towers?

I inferred your primary concern was that the lights are not directly above the bowls. After another look, I'm also questioning whether the bowls are centered over the doors. Depending on how many vendors are involved, you might have some recourse with the countertop provider? If you specified centerline of the bowl to be X inches from outside edge, then the error is indeed yours. But if your vendor sold you both the counter and the cabinets, I'd think they bear responsibility for fabricating the counter so the bowl and plumbing align with the center of the cabinets.

Thank you for the responses, you have given us some things to think about.

Another thought - if you could find LED lighted mirrors that you like, it might eliminate the need for other lights on the vanity.

This looks pretty unbalance to me and I would also be unhappy. I am assuming the sinks are centered over the cabinet doors. I think the easiest thing to do is to get two towers for the ends that match in size to the drawers below. The one tower looks way too skimpy. I also think the lights need to be moved to be centered over the sinks. I think you'll have to have the backsplash redone or you'll never be happy.

Design Girl, Thanks the sinks are centered over the cabinet doors. We are thinking that 2 shallower towers at the ends may help balance things. We are thinking that a piece of trim, in the center, that matches the towers may take away the need to have a new backsplash made. See picture below. Thank you, everyone, so much for your help. Anyone have thoughts on this remedy?
