Tile backsplash design help

Seeking help finding the right accent tile/border for a long delayed backsplash design I’m currently working on. I’ve created two focal areas, each over the sink and range. The smaller range design will be a simple layout of the identical tile cut into 2x2s and layer out in the manner shown in pics. But the larger central design over the sink begs the use of an accent tile or mosaic border. I’ve tried to find something online that looks good with the Picasso travertine (and my DIY Copper counters) but have had no success so far. It needs to be something I can order online as I live in a rural area of the Canadian prairies and theres simply nothing out here. Please help me find a cool tile that will help frame the design and not overpower the already funky rustic Picasso tile. Thanks! (PS couldn’t seem to load anything but low res images. you've made your accent add-ons far too small. The one over the stove looks out of proportion and will not look good w/any type of accent tile. And, the frame around it is too large for the small insert.

the accent should run the length of the stove. yours is too small. there should also be equal rows above and below the insert.

properly done. see how the accent spans the width of the stove top?

ditto the one over the sink. it's supposed to be centered. that one is up too far and it's still too small. just fill it in w/the same tile and please, take it all the way up under the cabinet. why is there wall space?

you have a busy tile. you don't need an accent. just continue w/the same tile throughout.

It seems to be working this time! I’m laying out a central design for above sink. But it needs some sort of border tile (I already have bullnose molding in place to frame design)

A little off topic, but your cabinets are beautiful. What is the wood and stain?

Mainelle thanks. I actually had my cabinet maker pal supply unfinished. I used a dye base then top coated with a chestnut oil stain. I later applied several layers of top coat as well as antique glaze. I would NOT recommend this to anyone however without substantial experience in finishing tho. It was a nightmare!

Thanks Beth H. My tile will carry right up to the cabinets. I just stopped there before going further to take pics and figure out what I’m doing next. I purposely made the stove framed area smaller so that it wouldn’t fight for attention. The sink area is larger and is intended as the focal point. I know this doesn’t fly with the formula you mentioned in terms of scale. No matter, I can live with that. I placed the frame higher on the wall so that I can add a narrow shelf above the sink.

I agree with Beth. My first thought when I saw the cutouts were, if it were me, I would not have any. Beautiful kitchen and backsplash. Enjoy.

No accents behind either and those are way too small that is my opinion and if you love it I guess do it but I think those accents are a really dated look and belong in huge Tuscan style kitchens in face the tile behind that stove is too porous for a backsplash.
