Dining Room Decor

The furniture is staying, and we just painted the walls a silver gray. We aren’t sold on the curtains, just wanted something up for the time being. Any ideas for wall decor? Should I get an area rug? Thank you in advance.

You need a rug and the curtains have to go. You need something to start the job off with - art, a rug, something with colors so you can pull a palette together.

The sidebar gets lost right in back of the table but it doesn’t fit anywhere else. What are your thoughts about this rug? Or should I be looking for something that has black, brown and gray to ground all the colors in the room?

I like your dining room furniture, although the current sheer black drapes do seem too harsh paired with it. A drapery fabric with a lighter coloured background and/or some pattern and a weightier fabric would be better. The rug that you are looking at is also a bit stark and contemporary looking with all the warmth of the wood features in your room.
What colour scheme do you have in the adjoining rooms? Carrying those same colours into your dining room will help to keep your house feeling cohesive.
Your floors, ceilings and door trim in your dining room are lovely. I know that you painted your upper walls. Would you consider painting out the lower panelling on the walls too? Painting the wall panelling out would let those other wood features really be the star(but I do see that you have wall panelling in other areas too, so possibly not interested to make that change.)
You seem to have a modern rustic style to your home. Possibly, look at a pillar candle chandelier. That style would pair well with your dining set and also the wood features. I think it would be very beautiful in your room.
Do hang whatever light you choose, so that the bottom of the chandelier is about 30-34” from the table top.
If you post a bit more about your style and house colour scheme, then I am sure you will get lots of great suggestions for a rug, drapes, art, and accessories for your dining room.

I just bought this house and to be honest, I’m not too crazy about the wood paneling. It’s all over the house. My husband isn’t interested in putting too much work into it right now so I’m stuck with it. I would be willing to paint the wood. I didn’t even think of that. I don’t really have a scheme just yet, the dining room is my first room. I was going to start with the living room but two months later, I’m still waiting for my couch set to arrive from catnapper. I do like the furniture for the dining room. I’m not sure what my style is but I prefer grays, blacks, and browns, not too much color. Not that I’m not open to colors, I’ve just always gone to the blacks and grays. I’m willing to try anything. Actively shopping and will post photos so everyone can see the before and after.

I am in Canada, and I had actually never heard of catnapper, so I looked up. Looks like it has lots of comfortable reclining pieces for living room furniture. Hope you love your new furniture when it arrives.

Re:draperies...This store is in Canada, but I remembered a nice fabric they had that might just give you some drapery fabric inspiration. It is a nice small all over print in neutrals that would go nicely with your wall paint and add a bit of modern softness to your window and furniture.

I also checked out their wool rugs, and pretty much any of them would also work in your room and with the drapery as above. More inspiration...

Don’t be afraid to blend in different patterns of the same colour way...especially neutrals...it will look well designed and beautiful.
Good luck with your home. Hope you do paint lower panelling and that your husband gets more excited about decorating...that is often the biggest hurdle...lol. :)

It's a nice room, the doors and floor are gorgeous, as is your table. If you painted the wainscotting the same as the wall, it would really show off your furniture much better and make your sideboard stand out. It would also make drapery selection easier, as they will look much better against a solid color wall.

Do you need all the chairs around the table every day? I might move two from the sides and place them on either side of the sideboard. The configuration now looks a little "conference roomish" with them all lined up as they are.

I think you can do better than that rug. Your table and chairs have no curves; I'd get a less geometric rug, something that will soften all the angles. Are there any colors you'd consider as an accent to bring in with the rug and art?

or something more neutral than these but softer than the one you pictured:
