My gas company just sent an e-mail advertising smart and nest thermostats. There is a wide range of costs, and I was wondering if there is a recommended type or brand of thermostat that I should ask my new home builder about. I have a walk- thru with the HVAC guy next week to talk about thermostat and supply and return grill placement, so I thought that if a certain kind of thermostat were important, ( or should be avoided in your opinion) I would bring it up then.

My retirement home is a ranch, walk-out basement, about 1960 sq. Ft. Gas heat.
