The 50 year old switch on my table saw died. I purchased a combination switch and plug fitting so that when I activated the switch the plug would be activated and the table saw wood run.

I wired it as it was shown on the box and the way the manufacturer's website showed. The fitting is installed at the end of a drop cord, and the saw motor plugs into the fitting plug. I put the copper ground wire on the proper screw.

Once I got it wired I plug a lamp in the plug and hit the switch and the GFI fliped and the lights went out.

I checked the continuity between the drop cord plug ground and the and and between the other two wires, and every thing seemed to check normally.

Does it make a difference if the wide prong and the narrow plug get reversed in the circuit.
