Can you take some photos closer to the house? Stand about 15’-20’ in front of the front door and take a series of photos that scan across the front of the building from one property line to the other so the space close in is more visible. Don’t walk to different spots, just stand in one spot and rotate yourself as you take the photos.

Also, would it be possible to remove the wall across in front of the door? It isn’t a welcoming look to my eye to have a wall across half of the main entry. Also, the dark color of the garage door pulls attention that direction, and so you might want to consider whether there is a lighter color that would suit.

I would plant some shade tolerant, flowering trees with nice autumn color such as dogwoods/Cornus or shadblow/Amalanchier over towards the left side out in the yard. Place them in a bed of evergreen, shade tolerant ground cover.

Some ideas ... not about the exact plants to use, but the forms and the organization. If you could make the actual entrance path more prominent, probably by widening it, it would help a lot.

Is there room at the right corner of the garage to plant a narrow conifer that could slightly screen the house next door? There seems to be ample room on the other side, not that I’m suggesting matching trees or citing it as close to the house. I’d use the driveway as your vantage point to locate the positions that would be most effective. I like the simplicity of your house and the setting and wouldn’t do anything fussy. Groundcover like geranium macrorhizum in a big swath? I’m understand what babs is saying about the wall but a brick wall is an expensive piece of hardscaping and not easy to move or recycle. It’s also great for growing so many things against or over. Your yard looks shady so I’d suggest climbing hydrangeas. They have long lateral branches so they’d obviate any need for more shrubbery. They’d also grow on the house side which would be pleasant to look out on. What is the current view from that window and is it your living room? That view is as important as the one from the curb in developing your design .

Before any of us suggest plants, do you have deer? It looks like Bambiland.
