I was unaware of the boxwood blight- thanks for mentioning that to me, I will google that.

I bought the Sarcococca hookeriana var.humilis 'Sarsid2' variety earlier this year and just bought another since it does so well in shade and is evergreen.

Some sellers say this variety gets 2-3 feet tall vs the lower growing type that is not the Sarsid2. I wonder if that's true or just hype from the sellers?

I'm hoping it's true because I want it to rise above some Pachysandra that I have it planted in, amongst some Rhododendrons and Dawn Redwoods.

So glad you mentioned that it is indeed nicely scented, I was wondering about that too.

Does it smell like Hyacinth to you?

Just came back to edit this to include that I did google that blight and found out- "Other plants that are related to boxwoods may also be hosts, such as pachysandra and sweet box (Sarcococca species). "

And here I am planting it in Pachysandra oh my.

Note that Fragrant Mountain will be a trade name invented to sell 'Sarsid2' and is not of course a common name for the parent species. Otherwise

`Sarsid 2` differs from its parent species Sarcococca hookeriana var. humilis, in having larger and broader leaves and in having a more consistent plant habit and a more consistent and vigorous growth habit.

Embothrium, thanks much for that web link...that had some good hard facts on it.

I was especially curious about the height of "Sarsid2" and the link you shared with me clearly stated that it would indeed reach about 30 inches in 7 years!

As opposed to Sarsid1" reaching a lower height....hence the reason I sought out "Sarsid2" for a little more height.

And below are two photos of my wee little Sarcococca hookeriana var humilis 'Sarsid2' 'Fragrant Mountain', plant taken in October 2019

It's so small it is hard to see in the photo on the bottom without my hand in the photo to show size.

Note again that Fragrant Mountain will be a trademark or other commercial designation and not a cultivar name enclosed in single quotes - the cultivar name is instead the 'Sarsid2'.

Later: Saw both introductions together at a garden center, as expected Fragrant Mountain and Fragrant Valley are registered trademarks.

I need to get myself straight on the terminology with: cultivars and commercial names, trademark....it all confuses me.

The cultivar name serves to identify the specific plant involved, the rest (trademarks, registered trademarks, plant patents) to enhance and protect whatever commercial interest there is at work.

So that for instance with the cards attached to the two Sarcococca at the garden center the outfacing sides had the registered trademarks shown in large wavy print against fanciful backgrounds and the cultivar names were part of the - as it were - fine print on the down-to-business looking backsides, discovered only by grabbing the cards and turning them over.
