Split bulbs in Dec?

I typically bring my dormant indoor amaryllis up from the basement right about now, late Dec, so it will bloom for my birthday in Feb. it has two stalks with 4 flowers and the bulbs are taking up most of the pot. I meant to divide it this year but missed the Oct/Nov window. Can I do it now, and then have them upstairs in the sun to bloom as usual?

Not sure if I understand. Is it dormant or is it flowering?

Sorry, it is currently dormant in the basement. The bulbs take up most of the pot, and when it blooms (last time last Feb), it has two stalks with 4 flowers.

I pretty much do the same thing you do. All of mine are in the basement and being kept quite dry and cool. If I find they're in need of splitting, I'll do it just before I re-pot them in some fresh soil and give them a good soaking. What I try to do is not fuss with the roots too much because they kind of resent their roots messed with.
