Yep and honestly what does an HOA have to do with where your gas line runs unless you are in a condo.Sorry but all of this should have been worked out before install and even range choice.

I usually have a slide-in range opening designed at 30 1/8" which allows the range to be slid in with minimal space. I would guess (without seeing the entire space around the range) that your opening was designed too wide or the top wasn't made quite long enough. As for behind the range, often, a piece called a "Stove Stick" is used between the back of the range & the wall. This stick is roughly a 3" wide piece of the countertop. That or a metal strip sometimes sold separately from the range for the same purpose. Using the Stove Stick allows for gas piping & other electrical to be placed without obstructing the range. Rarely is a slide-in range pushed tight against the back wall.

You can get silicone 'Gap Stoppers' (Amazon) for less than 1/3 the cost the Whirlpool ones. I've not used them but the reviews are very positive, even when used w/ a gas range.

As for the gap in back of the range--are you planning for a backsplash or is the backsplash already installed. (Couldn't determine from the pix...)

@ci_lantro this how the back looks now. After seeing how well the painters patched things up, I am thinking of using a 4in backsplash matching the counters and a 12 in behind the range. Other option is to use 12in tile everywhere. I suspect the gap behind the stove will be covered either way. But may put in a filler to be sure.

@joseph thanks for the tip about the level. Looking at the gap again, the difference in gap width may be due to front being of different material. The Costco delivery guy did not really too many checks. Will go through the user guide and see what are the options available.

You’re going to have potential thermal shock stone breakage issues if you don’t raise the legs of that range to get the grates completely above the adjacent countertops. The stove body itself has to be flush or taller than the countertops. Plus the issue of the noncombustible assembly needed behind the range. Unless that is a concrete block wall there?

Yes, that looks like a range that is meant to go into an island rather than against the wall. Check the manual for clearance requirements. You might have to buy and install a raised backguard.

Arvind, I bet you thought replacing a range would be easy! You are almost done, look great.

I agree that you need to check the installation guide again about clearances to combustables to the rear. This is one of those stoves where the heat from the oven comes out the back (to the rear of the grates) and will go up that back wall. As is, it will probably scorch over time. There are all kinds of discussions about what constitutes a non-combustable surface behind a stove like this.

When you remove the grates, the top of the stove should be either even or slightly above the counter top.

@live_wire_oak and @weedmeister thanks for the tip. Looks like the Costco installer was an amateur. I asked him the exact same question and he mentioned the grates will be aligned and not the top of the stove. He also never checked the level. I guess I will call them and ask if they can send someone more knowledgeable over. For the back it says 1inch gap is enough but who knows, looks like no one knows what they are doing anymore. Also, I am hoping that once I install the microwave on top the vent will be pretty good and quickly remove any heat.

@wacokid yeah I wish I never asked the question about cooktop + wall oven below the cooktop (instead of raised in the wall) on Houzz. After hearing it is not a popular combo in the US, I decided to demolish my current setup and change. Big mistake!
