I was happy to see the Catherine hosta looking so lovely. I purchased one in 2018, but don't have a picture of it unfortunately. So that's on the to do list for 2020.

I see that Curly Fries is doing so well for everyone. Mine also is coming along. It is a beautiful hosta with good growth.

Clear Fork River Valley has been on my must have list for a couple of years but somehow I still don’t have it...must rectify that this year!

Claudia what a very sweet offer! That was my Cotton Candy in the pics, so I do have it.

I think a lot of people do send plants across the border but we aren't supposed to. There are import licences and phytosanitary certificates etc. needed. Pests/diseases passing across borders is the reason. I think most just put plants in a box and fib about the contents. Depending on the time of year the plant could freeze or fry.

I gave my sister a bunch of plants and on the way back to the US they were confiscated at the border.

newhostalady, what a wonderful Clear Fork River Valley. That's why I bought mine initially. But it seems to have big problems :-( It was tiny this summer and I hope it will come back in spring...

my husbands family is from Whitby. there are a couple of Hosta nurseries on the way there and I think one is close to Niagara Falls? I really wanted to go there and buy some streakers and others I couldn’t get here in Michigan, but I was really worried if we would get fined at the Detroit border. My mother in law always tells me how strikt things are now and how much longer it even takes to cross.

peren.all, I am not surprised about the confiscaction. It must be done to prevent invasive species and any potential threat to plants, trees, crops, etc. I am sure it happens going from USA to Canada and USA to Mexico and back. Someone more knowledgeable than me can tune in here.

Yes Claudia, she is quite correct. It has become much more intense in recent years. There have always been checks at the border but nothing like now. The crossings can take a long time let alone if you get hauled into an office for a problem that could have been avoided.

djacobs that was at least 30 ago. There could well be a fine now. Even fruit is an issue. I am sure it works both ways and from both borders. It is certainly a good thing if it keeps pest/disease transfer down.

nicholsworth, I got Clown's Collar from Naylors in 2011, so it's been there since then and is a nice smaller one ....and the alphabet always makes me want to take better pics for next year. I have some I never get a decent picture of. Do you ever scold your hostas and say, "If you're going to look like that you'll never make it to the internet?" Or maybe that's just me who does that!

hosta_maker, LOL at chew toy. Some do seem more susceptible. Yeah, that flower is a pretty purple.

sandyslopes..so Clown's Collar isn't new?..it wasn't in my memory lol..and about pics..I have multiple pics of some and zero pics of others..I'm ready to take pics today haha but no hosta :-( ..I've tried funny angles, cropping etc to get a good shot of a sad looking hosta..but usually delete it..

I meant it but I need to see how it comes back in this year. as you can see in the picture ita not that big yet. I only bought it this year.

It does come from a save nursery. My friend and I bought several expensive hostas there and she used the test sticks and they came all back negative

Karin, sorry to hear your Clear Fork River Valley hasn't been doing that well. Perhaps 2020 will be a better year? I haven't had any trouble growing it. I have mine in a spin out bag. The growth has been steady but slow.

djacobz, the blue on CFRV is temporary. It is known to be more of a green hosta. The leaves have good substance and the corrugation becomes more intense as the hosta matures. Lots of nooks and crannies for water droplets!

Congrats to you two on being cancer free. Great news to start the new year!

Thank you Mae! The perennial next to Crazy for You is Jacob's Ladder 'Stairway to Heaven.' It is pretty, but slugs also love it unfortunately. I've got to make sure I keep up with slug control for my hosta and that plant.

That shot was from Early May. I don't think the sun matters at that point. I think it got sun from about 10:30 - 12:00. By August it looks like this.

I am really learning to pay attention to the hosta changes throughout the season. Never really been attuned to that before. People showing the progression of their hostas is very helpful, being somewhat of a new comer.

Sorry for the dirty picture - Checkered Cab - Really looking forward to this one's progression next year.

mbug, I love that little Cherry Berry in a pot...I would love to collect some minis in pots but not sure about the overwintering. Your Cup of Grace seedling....is that the one with yellow center and green edge, lance shaped leaf? so different from the parent.! I also love Center of Attention, nice and twisted! Cathedral windows, just beautiful.

"C" hostas are more common in my hosta lineup: Cameo, Coconut Custard, Country Mouse, and Cracker Crumbs.

Cameo is at 3:00 o'clock, Cracker Crumbs is at 7 o'clock. Pure Heart is at 6 o'clock and Appletini is at high noon.
