kitchen makeover

young couple bought a fixer-upper in a great neighborhood but the interior and layout is horrific. This kitchen doesnt feel like a kitchen, and is in need of so much. The placement of the oven is awful, it looks so unfinished hanging out on it's own and butts right into the basement door. I havent remodeled the kitchen because I dont know where to start. Please help?

A scaled floor plan with dimensions. Graph paper works best. Not the back of a cereal box.

Put the tv on the opposite wall where the blackish picture is.... put stove next to refrigerator and add some counter sticking out.... like a peninsula... can round it out and lower a bit to make it a table so no worries about a separate table too

Cabinets pantry area with bar to the right of the back door when you walk in. Could even put wall oven with counter space. Use cooktop. In other side with pan storage underneath.

This looks like a fairly petite space to work in, and I think you will have to think about what are you willing to give up to increase the kitchen a bit. But, I like the living space as you have it today. I don't know that I would take away too much from that area.

In the kitchen you have a door to the outside, and on the other side of that door looks like a place for coats and boots, yes? That area looks like a good place to extend your kitchen with another work zone and additional storage. That could function as a beverage center (coffee, mixed drinks) or as a baking center (mixer, all the baking stuff) or any other prep function that doesn't rely heavily on the sink.

Removing the soffit and extending the cabinets up would gain you more storage space in the main kitchen. As would extending the opening around the fridge to allow for a cabinet over the fridge. If the buyers extended themselves pretty far to afford this place, I would focus on space allocation and no real construction. Ikea has a lot of great ideas for maximizing small spaces and using all nooks and crannies smartly.

I would hate where the stove is too. Is there anyway, to extend that living room wall to make more wall space and move the stove and a small cabinet next to it there. I would make sure there is cabinets all the way where stove is now, and then not do much more, since the space is so limited, and it doesnt appear there is any extra space. It is open concept to the living room, now, but, that kitchen doesnt have enough space for open concept.

Move the door over to where the sink window is. Now you can create an L-shaped kitchen where the eating area currently is. And you can have a dedicated entry space. The fireplace eats up a lot of room. If you remove it, you have a lot more options for dining and living spaces.

were going to do a built in stove and new base cabinets so we dont have to move the kitchen into the living room but it still looks complete.
