NW what color does it bloom? I like the texture and two-tone leaves!

GardenHo..they were white tinted with pink..I would be happy even if it never bloomed..I LOVE the leaves too..

It should be just fine for you nw. There is a girl on this forum (gdinnie) in roughly the Toronto area that grows it although it is slow to come up in spring. She probably has a micro-climate within her garden since others that live close by fail or struggle.

That is a nice combo with the Hellebore & Lysimachia.

peren..thanks for the compliment :-) ..I hope they fill in more..the friend that gave me the begonia has several nice sized clumps in different locations..of course she has more light than I do..I looked around quite a bit deciding where to plant it..

I’m pretty happy with my Baptisia. It took years to get to this size.

north..I would be happy too!..it's beautiful..

I have to say this alphabet is quite the challenge to the memory!! : /

Whose idea was this anyways?! Lol

    Buddelia

    Baptisia australus

North...They do take years, but so worth the wait. This one from Santa Rosa Gardens (tiny) took 5 years to finally reach this size!

    I don't have many B's... let's see...

    Boltonia 'Snowbank'

    Brunnera 'Alexander's Great'

    Buxus microphylla var. japonica 'Wintergreen'

Buddleia davidii, couldn't find a shot of the whole shrub which got stupidly huge this year, but here's one panicle with the reason I keep it around.

And my sad contribution to Baptisia australis, which I would be embarrassed to compare with the gorgeous specimens above except that I know it was a dead looking blackened stem with all the leaves off two years ago. I scurried to this forum to get help for after a local gardener divided it for me. Guess what? It survived!

    Hmmm...one of a buddleia

There aren't a lot of "B"s, are there?

I appreciate seeing all the mature Baptisia australis.

oursteelers the color of MissMolly is intense and so pretty!

    Baptisia 'Carolina Moonlight'

Brunnera 'Jack Frost' ....has been a fast grower for me

    ....looks good after flowering, too!

    Brunnera variegata

Brunnera 'Looking Glass' ......this one produces a lot of offspring, hardly ever look like the parents, though.

I have so little sun so my perennials are limited. But I do have:

    Marshalls Bee Balm

    Bleeding Heart

    Bi-color Barrenwart that’s one color.

Bapista Australis behind maple. I have been afraid to let it seed because I’m afraid it will get too big for my garden. But I love the purple flowers!

I also have a Jack Frost Brunnera, but no photo..... :-(

djacobz..I had bee balm at another house..more sun there..I considered bleeding heart but then decided I'd post it as a D for dicentra..I forgot that epimedium is also called barrenwort..I've heard fairy wings and bishop's hat..then I looked..there's also horny goat weed and yin yang huo..6 names?..I have several colors of blooms..

Unfortunately, like most of you folk here, I don’t always know the scientific names.

I figure they can go under either!

Baptisia, just cause now I’m looking at all these pictures and missing my summer garden.

Dj don’t feel bad, I don’t know them either.

djacobz..having multiple names for the same plant doesn't make the name situation any easier..

    oursteelers..I agree..either letter..or both!

I think it's a really common problem lol..

That's funny nicholsworth! I think we're all happy to be able to see plants and gardens this time of year no matter what name is being used. I know I'm tired of looking at snow covering everything.

I've tried to learn the latin names of all my plants, sometimes I know those better than the common names, but now with the DNA testing of plants, they're changing a lot of them!

So I have the old latin names in my head and don't know if I have room left in there to learn the new ones, lol. Plus, the nurseries don't seem in a hurry to embrace the new names on the name tags, which is how I learned so many of the previous names. It's confusing.

I like when people here put the old name/new name so I can let it sink in gradually.

Is there one place that lists all the new names? I just read an article on renaming Coleus that made my head spin!

sandyslopes..I know what you mean about name changes..just last week I saw where an elephant ear's name was changing..it was going into a different genus? family? class?..it's very confusing..I also have both common and Latin names in my mind..sometimes you need the common name if you're talking to someone that doesn't know the Latin yet they have plant knowledge..it's a good thing that we can grow and love plants without being perfect with these names..

Bellis perennis (a tender perennial that hates heat) among the viola and Narcissus in early spring

    Buddleia 'Miss Molly'

I think my only B, at least all that I have a photo of, is Brunnera Jack Frost. That’s been a popular one in this thread. Lol. My Jack Frost seeds a bit and most of the seedlings keep the same variegation, which is nice. B. Looking Glass is beautiful! I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.

Here’s Jack Frost months after blooming, with the leaves all grown up. I like the garden decoration, too :)

    He is adorable!!!

    That grin tho...... :)

And he shows how big the leaves on your Jack Frost get!
