Kitchen remodel - pendants or no?

I had 3 pendant lights I removed over island because they were just horrible ..many years ago. I recently remodeled my kitchen and wonder if I should get something else now.... I have a chandelier not far away, and just don’t know if it’s too much..would love some design advice. When I’m standing at island my view is TV and angled fireplace so whatever I do I don’t want to be super low to obstruct view or have to jockey round to not hit while cooking.

I'd add pendants but keep the pendants very simple. The chandelier you have doesn't seem to do anything. I'd either go with something striking like in the below photo or something with clean lines, similar to pendants.

Do you need more lighting over the island? If you don’t I would not install more lighting.

The pendants would replace the existing canned - purely decorative as I have plenty of light. I kind of like unobstructed view - but wanted others opinion- had a friend say looks unfinished without island lighting - I can see that too- clearly indecisive.

I think your kitchen looks beautiful just as it is.

I think pendants would balance the light in your eating area and improve things.

agree. the patterned backsplash is fab!

If you do not need the lighting then I would leave it as it is. Your kitchen is beautiful. I am curious about the room next to the kitchen. I know you are asking only about the lights but sometime could you post a picture of it - not now as I do not want a discussion started about that room when you are seeking opinions about lighting.

I’m waiting for furniture for family room next to kitchen - will undoubtedly need design help with that too..I’ll post a pic once I have the basics in.

Yea. CRD Is on point. You can mix metals, but I would do goldish chandelier and two pendants if good size and open. Perhaps that chandy could go in a master bath or formal dining area. But beautiful kitchen.

We had a pendant versus no pendant thread in the kitchen forum a while back and the final results were pretty close to 50/50, so I wouldn't worry about what your friend says. If you like the way it looks without pendants, then you should keep it that way.

Lately pendants sizes have gotten a bit out of control and all you see when you look at a kitchen is these hulking pendants that are usually obscuring a pretty hood that can barely be seen!

Simple glass pendants would balance out the chandelier IMO and BTW that TV is too high for proper viewing when seated.

I chose to leave can lights and not put pendants over our island. I like the unobstructed view. Your kitchen is lovely as is.

    I like your ideas

No pendants for us. Husband is very tall (so was the contractor). I am very happy with recessed. Also no light fixtures to clean!

Sorry the picture did not entirely show the recessed directly over the island.

Love your kitchen. No pendants needed.

I have to agree with Flo, your kitchen is beautiful but my eye gets dragged to the table instead of to your lovely kitchen where it belongs

Base furniture in...still a lot to do. I’m still not sold on obstructing view over island because we are also tall and I live at the island looking into living room at tv. I did find this amazing new chandelier for over kitchen...need pillows and side tables etc...work in progress.

    Totally dont need pendants

Totally do need pendants. That chandelier is lovely but again pulls the eye to the table and away from stunning kitchen.

No pendants and love your furniture and the future chandelier.

I love totally candid feedback. I appreciate it! I’ll continue to post as I build this out.

I would either add pendants over both the dining table and island or none at all on either. You have a beautiful home.

Maybe you can post some pendants you’re considering.....?

In the kitchen, you need more light directed to the ceiling to eliminate the greyness. The TV is far too high: 4”-6” above the cabinet is fine.

I am on Team Pendent. I think you need to go more simple in the design. Look for a chandelier that has companion mini pendants for uniformity and balance. I feel you need some contrast. Try to find fixtures with black or dark oiled bronze. It will tie into the dark credenza and TV. And houseplants. If the pendants are hung at the proper height they will not interfere with your view. Dimmers are a good idea too.

Upon looking at your photos again, I feel you definitely need some “dark” in the lighting. The dark flooring and dark island on the bottom 50 percent of the space and white/gray on top. I do really love the contrast, but it needs balance. Dark metal in the light fixtures and light rugs. BTW totally love your backsplash behind the range. You should highlight that area. It is stunning. And where did you get the tile?

I found at The Tile Shop, totally forgot name. Here is a pic, sure you could find online. It’s a mix of marble and tile. Lots of people on Houzz didn’t like it, but I loved it so went with it.

We did this rattan type in an all white kitchen.
