Red Lime questions?

I got a small harvest of 6 red limes. This tree was an impulse buy, (crazy, I know!). But now, I have no idea what to do with them. I did cut one open to taste. Loved the scent, smelled very tangerine-ish, but tasted VERY Lime-ish. But they are just sitting there begging me to use them. But how? Maybe a pie?

I have the same problem. I’d use them as you would a lime - fish, poultry. If you don’t use the zest, you could try to candy it. I’ve been making lots of orange peel candy with my blood orange zests. They’re delicious!

They are great! I can't get enough of them. Everyone around here likes them. My red lime is just now starting to bloom again and put out new growth under grow lights. I mainly squeeze them whole into drinks. So tasty, Seeds sprout easily.

Dave I’m glad yours is well. Mine is happy too! The lemons are the same color as the Rangpur limes...very pretty and tasty!

Laura, yours are beautiful! Mine grew in little clusters of three. Maybe I should have knocked two of them off? They are larger than I thought they would be. Honestly, I like the peel of most citrus better than the pulp. Everybody thinks I'm crazy when I eat the peel. LOL!

I use the peel of other citrus a lot as a air freshener, as well. Just put it in a pan on the stove with some spices, and simmer. Wonder how it would be infused in vinegar as a cleaner?

Dave, I gave up drinking years ago. But the "kids" might like it in drinks. Maybe infuse it in water. I've been drinking lemon water lately, no sugar, so not lemonade, just straight juice in water. Very refreshing on these warmer days.

Your tree looks great, Laura! My fruit turn that color orange too. I haven't left them on the tree long enough to ever see them turn red (if they ever do). Do you use the lime peel too?

I think the Red Lime has good commercial potential. The fruit is very good quailty, the tree produces very well, easy to take care of, fairly cold hardy. I would buy red limes in the store, if I didn't have a tree.

Think I should have left mine on the tree longer. Size comparison with regular key limes. This is the first harvest from this tree. Live and learn! Lol!

Laura, yours are much more orange than mine.

redneckgirl, I also don't drink alcohol, but I use citrus in other drinks very often, like soda water, teas, and coconut water. It adds a lot of flavor! Great idea about adding the peel to your hot pan air freshener.. CItrus make good cleaning solutions. I used citrus juice to clean my hands from Christmas tree sap over the holidays. Soap and water alone didn't remove it well. Worked great.

Cut up the last red lime from my tree. I let it get much redder than the first ones. (I overlooked it, LOL). It was delish! Wow, much better than the first ones.I will be keeping this tree for sure. -Bonnie
