Kitchen finishing touches

I started out with a kitchen completely gutted, with the landlord being as kind as he is, he has allowed me to put my own stamp on the place and has been assisting me in bringing the dream and the ideas to life. I have always felt a flare for interior design and work towards becoming a professional interior designer but sometimes we all need a little perspective. I have become so wrapped up with the opportunity to start with a blank canvas of a home and see my design, style and creativity come to fruition. How would you finish off this kitchen? What finishing touches would you add?

Cambria controls the price at which their material can be sold, and who can install it. It typically runs about $95/square foot give or take depending on the area. This appears to be 60 square feet maybe a little more or so of counter tops space, so probably $5,700-$6,000.

Beautiful kitchen! I think the current paint color is much too warm for the cool colors of your kitchen, so I think painting is a must. Would you be willing to choose a new color you could carry into the living room - that would be the best option? Then, new Roman shades (much less yellow and probably not floral) and you're done. Gorgeous kitchen! Oh, I would not tile above that window. A new paint color is all you need.

Thanks to all for the comments. I have avoided displaying a lot of objects because I like a clean, modern look. Also, I like the way my clean counter tops function when I'm cooking. I need all the counter space I can get! And I like my new Hunter Douglas Silhouette blinds for their function but they just look a little plain and unfinished to me (even though I understand undressed windows are "in"). Now that several of you have pointed to the small picture, I agree. When there were draperies at the windows it didn't look that small! I'm leaning now toward larger art and colourhappy's suggestion of soft muted linen panels and a larger, more colorful picture. Thanks again, everyone! I really appreciate the Houzz community of advisors!

Beautiful! You did a lovely job on your kitchen. Not sure you need to do much here. Maybe work in an accent color in canisters, a fruit bowl, towels, floor rugs, utensil holder. Maybe art on the wall near your sink. I like to break up my counters with a bit of art, greenery or interest pieces so its not all just kitchen stuff. To me it helps personalize the space and blends in with the feel of the rest of the house. You have alot of counter space to play with if you want to. We did as well. Cheers on a wonderful job done!

Ditch the heads. They have no place in the kitchen. Use the shelves for stacked plates , bowls. Bring in an accent of the yellow to include the fridge color somewhere else. Maybe a roman shade with some yellow in the fabric over the window. sleek and simple. A rug with it. A bright yellow bowl on the shelf. Last bring in a plant. Obviously it is a small space so less is more.

I like the heads. I like to see things that have a bit of personality. It looks like they are vases? Maybe use one to hold your utensils rather than the plain jar I see in the corner. Things can be quirky and functional. Definitely add more yellow to have the bright yellow fridge make sense in the room. Maybe replace the black pan on your stove with a yellow enamel lecreuset style pot? Or replace the electric kettle with one in a bright color?
