The dark pieces you have actually create a nice contrast to all the off-white on the floor and walls as well as chairs. To me, the biggest thing this room needs is some warmth. The floor tile is really cold so, I would suggest putting several rugs down in warm colors and textiles. You could even layer 2 rugs over each other. You may also want to consider painting the walls a warmer tone. I would definitely add some larger artwork to the walls and if you want to keep the drapes, update them to a warmer tone that matches the rugs. All these improvements are minimal cost and will make a big impact. Good luck!

Large artwork on the walls would really help personalize this space too. And make it feel more like a home to you. Framed posters are relatively inexpensive and can add your interests into the room.

I would add orange to the room. A rug and pillows would be a great start. Then add some metallics. Either in the lamps or a coffee table.

Big yes to large artwork. I was wanting to bring all the vivid colours of the rainbow into the room if it were somewhere tropical, but that probably wouldn't work in the desert. What would probably work is to go with very cool colours on the blue/green spectrum. A blue/green patterned rug could look good, flat rather than high-pile, and continue the feeling in the art but with other colours in the mix, in quite soft versions. Black and white art would also fit. Dark brown, simple wooden frames with a bit of shine (if I'm reading your upholstery correctly as dark brown) for the b/w works. Play with the colours for cushions. Big cushions. I'd rather like to see a standing lamp with an interesting silhoutte -- wrought iron would work, perhaps something in a typically local aesthetic -- sharing the corner space on the right with the plant, and another huge plant in the other corner. In a fabulous pot, preferably. More greenery anywhere it seems to belong. I can't work out what's happening with the apparently large expanse of tile leading to the sitting area, but there should be space for something there, too. An attractive round tray on the coffee table/chest; pile it with colourful fruit.

I think it would definitely look a lot better if the 3 seater were on the wall and the two seater by window.
I definitely agree that getting some pillows, an area rug, some plants (with metallic vases/pots!) and a very large piece of art work is definitely the way to go.
