Linda -- the bottom sampler is the real deal from early 1800's Connecticut and I did have it authenticated. I've always wanted one but they were so expensive and I found that one in my little town -- cheap! The one above it is newer -- from a graph sold by friends in Fort Scott but I didn't do it -- I found it already done and framed in Joplin, Mo (about 1 hour from us) -- my friends don't know I have one but I have their graph! The top one has one letter missing.

Linda -- I have an antique house so "old" "outdated" things fit! That's the great thing about antique houses -- a vintage kitchen is a vintage kitchen in 1990 or in 2020! And it looks appropriate in an antique house!

My house is 6 years from being a real antique. And wall paper covers a lot of irregularities in the old plaster.
What's the date on the "real" sampler? I have an old one, dated 1823 that I found in a box of linens I bought for $21. It's initialed but not dated. I have another that is unfinished, as well as unsigned but I think it's very early, mostly judging from the house where I bought it.

Back to your lamp or lamps as you say it's one of a pair. It's not a whale oil lamp as they have or had a distinctive burner and were pretty well driven off the market by 1870. And I don't think your lamp is that old. I think it burned kerosene, nd yes the chimney is new. I remember when the hardware store had chimneys like that on a shelf. I live in Iowa and in the early 1960's there were still a lot of areas without electricity,,,,or plumbing!!
You should be able to identify the pattern of the oil reservoir and date it by the pattern..

I think it's 1822 or 1823 -- Connecticut made -- I don't have a picture of it on the computer so will have to go up and take one.

I know whale oil lamps are older but I thought the shape was whale oil rather than kerosene. Obviously it's been electrified. So look at the pattern and see where that gets me -- where do you find info on those patterns?
