The same time any other peony sprouts. Sometimes as early as February, but usually in early spring.

it might depend on how deep each was planted .. or how the soil settled in each hole ... not to mention what the soil is ...

i figure its much to early to declare death to the others ...... just because one is hyperactive ....

I wouldn’t worry. Peonies are pretty resilient. Mine range from early to late season blooming so maybe who you have popping up is an early season.

I was out cleaning up today nd saw a couple of fat red spears peeking out. Spring will be here soon!

My peonies are just breaking the soil in northern Virginia.

I'll second the remark about them being resilient. I bought two from Kmart probably around 2002, and planted them mid-summer when it was quite toasty. They've been chugging along for years and slightly declining (prob because I didn't know how to plant them properly back then). So I moved one of them in the middle of summer last year to another bed; they looked awful a couple days later, then I thought I might have killed the ones I moved. Nope. They ALL sprouted back up this spring, and turns out, I missed one piece in its original location, because it also sprouted. It's funny how some things that look so delicate are actually tough as nails.
