How high is the ceiling? Would it be possible to do a coffered ceiling where the woodwork is matched to what you already have? Then you can lay the T&G opposite to the flooring direction as shown here.

Drywall or plaster is required first as a fire preventative measure. Start there. Plaster is much preferred. It’s a superior choice. The house doesn’t need the informality or wood overload of a tongue and groove ceiling. That’s a low grade utility space choice. Plaster was THE choice for public spaces. For many reasons.

But only do this after the HVAC ducting is run, and any plumbing updates are done. Or you’ll be backtracking to do it again.

I’m not sure that T&G is the right choice with all that really stunning woodwork in my head they don’t work together.. I think maybe wood and drywall coffered would make more sense.

I agree. That entry is too formal for a T&G ceiling. Aside from that, there is plenty of texture with the woodwork, paneled doors, strip flooring & chair rail. Adding more texture will detract from the other lovely elements. Adding more texture would be sensory overload; the eye needs somewhere to take a rest. Either drywall or plaster the ceiling.
