Could this small secretary work as a nightstand / bedside table?

I bought this 1920s secretary on Saturday, and tried asking in the decorating forum but I only received 1 reply and none after I added dimensions. The bed I would be placing the piece next to is 27" tall, the top of the secretary is 39" and the shelf when down is 29". I really love the piece and think it would fit in well in the room.

This ;style desk is one of my favorites!

Of course it would work next to the bed! Add a little lamp and a petite desk chair and you’ve got yourself one of my favorite looks for a bedroom.

    Yes!

I probably wouldn't put anything heavy on the open desk portion but it should do nicely for a night stand.

This would be a great creative room piece.

The beautiful part about this desk is it has slife out supports that support the writing surface, so it will hold a lot of weight without sagging.

Thank you all for the help so far. I'm looking for a headboard now, and found this one on Facebook Marketplace. Thoughts if it works well enough with the secretary? I would also like to move this blue striped chair that I bought last summer into the bedroom from my office.

Will these items look cohesive together, or does the French style of the bed clash too much with the secretary?

All would look good together. Will you be painting the desk?

Hi Sammy- I was planning to keep the desk original, as other than some nicks on the left foot most of the finish is in really good shape.

I ended up not getting the upholstered headboard as both the color and condition were not the same as the pictures when I went to see it in person. This weekend however I found a few more pieces from a family that was downsizing, but now I have quite a bit of mahogany. Sorry, I'm just realizing how blurry the picture of the chest is but it's solid mahogany again with a serpentine front. I have 2 bedrooms on the 1st floor I'm wanting to redo so I could split up the furniture as both rooms are about the same size (roughly 12' X 12' with 9' ceiling) with original 1930 wood floors. So I'm thinking it would be good to split up the furniture, and add some rugs and lighter colors to break up the mahogany?

I did order this ivory velvet quilt and shams so far for the bed. For paint colors, I was thinking of a pale blue for one bedroom and maybe a green-gray for the other?

These are great pieces to work with. I'd probably start with a good rug and pick other colors from there.

Lovely!!...particularly like the mirror....looks like it originally went over a dressing table. Beautiful bed....sadly those old beds are not too good with today's ultra thick mattresses.. I wouldn't buy a new mattress for a guest room if I already had a good one, but when you need to replace it, think of one of the new thinner foam ones...better on that bed.

You have selected some beautiful pieces, and I agree with Fori that a beautiful rug should be chosen before you choose paint colors. Be sure to show us the finished room! We need that!
