Do Your Kitchen Cabinets have knobs.

Do your kitchen cabinets have knobs, handles, none or something else? Mine have handles. What do you have?

Knobs on doors and pulls on drawers.

My friend's lake house had no knobs on any of the doors and after a few years the doors got sticky and showed a lot of wear where people touched them to open/close.

    Knobs throughout the house.

I have clear glass knobs. In the last house I had copper pulls. I find no difference in the two as far as ease of function.

I have knobs on all - Walnut I love your white kitchen, same as mine. But it seems like it's harder to find white appliances.

I dislike knobs. I have 5" pulls on everything in my kitchen. Like Walnutcreek, my kitchen is small and I thought the uniform size would be better visually - and I haven't changed my mind!

When we moved into this house, none of the cabinets or drawers had handles. DH found these stick-on hooks at Ollie's, of all places. I wasn't sold on them at first but now I wouldn't change them for anything. So easy on my arthritic hands. I got the drawer handles that match pretty well from Home Depot.

We had knobs added as an upgrade when we bought. Dh is pretty particular about his home hardware so I let him get whatever he wants. It doesn't really matter to me as long as there is something.

No knobs/handles. original teak custom kitchen/home 1962. Dutch Architect MCM. (chuckle when someone is tired of their 10 yr old kitchen).

Polished brass pulls. Knobs make for dirty doors.

My kitchen looks as if I raided the bargain bin at the hardware store--which is exactly what I did. I had to go count the different kinds of knobs and pulls, and came up with eight different styles in the kitchen, and a ninth style on the closet door in the DR, which is open to the kitchen. I also have three colors of paint (cream, green, and black), three styles of cabinets (old, new, and vintage) and three different countertop materials. To others it might look as if I couldn't make up my mind--I just call it quirky.

Brass knobs that need changing. When I price new ones the price shocks me and I pass.

I have pulls on all my uppers, and lowers.

Had knobs in my former home, and hated them. Pockets were always catching on them, and the cabs were always grungy around them. Now, with all pulls, my pockets are safe, and DH’s grungy fingers don’t touch the wood. Cabs stay much cleaner. Also, as one ages, pulls are much more ergonomic...easier to operate.

Knobs, DH didn't want to have to make 2 holes on each door and drawer!

The house came with ugly '80's builder grade cabinets, slab partial overlay doors, with grooves in the edges of the door and drawer fronts. Ugh.

In my 10 year old "new" KF kitchen, I have recycled glass knobs on brass posts on the perimeter with multiples for decor in some places. The appliances and island drawers have brass finished cast aluminum bar pulls with abalone shell inlays.

Sue, are you looking to change yours?

I was just about to say knobs all around but decided to check first. Knobs on doors, handles on drawers.

Sleevendog - kitchens are like growing out a pixie cut. If you let it go long enough it can look great but that in-between stage can be awkward, making it hard to leave alone. (Hey I just made that up, like it?)

@Raye Smith: "Knobs, they're great to getting caught on pockets, sleeves and robe ties..." That is one of the things I recalled happening at my daughter's cabinet knobs and was another reason I selected all pulls.

@ritawee: Thank you. I do love my white kitchen. Had to cave-in to getting stainless steel appliances, though I would have preferred white.

@raee_bw: Oh, size was another thing. After cutting out multiple sizes of foil and taping onto the drawers and doors, I finally decided, again due to the small galley kitchen, to go with one size. Purchased 6 1/4" pull, as well as all new hinges, and wall socket plates.

@HU: Price was a shocker to me, too. First time pricing and purchasing cabinet hardware on my own. Had no idea it was so expensive.

@Darbuka: Totally agree that pulls are much more ergonomic than knobs. And, they are much cleaner is my recollection from former homes.

I have knobs uppers, pulls lowers in my kitchen. I didn't plan it, they were here but I don't mind them. In my bath, there are no knobs or pulls at vanity or linen closet. In the other two baths, all pulls.

Knobs. I prefer them to handles and pulls. I also like the design of our cabinets (1962) that lets me open the bottom cabinets from underneath with my toe.

What's the difference between a handle and a pull?

I have a dark metal post with wide hat on upper and lower doors in the kitchen, with spring loaded plastic rollers catching on a metal post to latch them.

The drawers have a metal band that starts at the surface of the drawer and arches out, then back, so no ends sticking out to catch clothing, but I think they're too far from traffic for that to be much of a problem.

Handles on lavatory doors in bathroom are a metal circle fastened on a metal base at the top and sticking out a little over half an inch at the bottom. The hinges are spring loaded, to pull the door closed when the door gets near to being closed.

The handle on the linen closet is a metal bar that starts at the surface, bends out then back to the surface, can't catch passing items. Double doors on clothes cupboard in the basement, same story.

One chest of drawers has a long wooden bar with a recess along the bottom, another has a metal circle fastened to a base at one side and sticking out a half inch at the other. A third has no handles, with the edges of the drawers depressed a bit on the inside: female fingers might find it a bit easier to access them than mine do: but they do work for me, if a bit inconvenient, due to proximity to the neighbouring drawer.

We have knobs on the uppers and pulls on the lowers which are all drawers. Both the knobs and the pulls have a high relief because of my arthritic hands which, if I bang them, really feel the ouch.

i have lived with all three. I will never go back to knobs. I like pulls and I want them to be closed at the ends, with nothing to snag on. I do have one set of knobs for the high cabinet over the wall oven. They are moose and I just liked them and bought them to add a bit of whimsy but haven't installed them yet. I also have a few knobs set aside for a couple of tall cabinets for my future laundry room on my wish list. But drawers and lowers and most wall cabs will have pulls.

I am not planning on replacing mine. This subject came to mind when I was looking over ways to hang kitchen towels in the kitchen from a handle or a knob. None can be hung from my oven handle. Making some kitchen towels with the proper top to hang from either is a future sewing project for Alyssa and me.

This reminds me of a conversation I just had with a neighbor, he was looking at a house that had just put new but cheap cabinets in a kitchen to quickly sell a house. He couldn't understand how they could have cabinets without pulls or knobs. Apparently, he'd never had cabinets that have no pulls on them. I couldn't convince him that you don't necessarily need to have pulls and that they make cabinets that do not need pulls, I've lived in many homes without.

Handles on everything. My dh does still manage to dirty up the white cabinets.

My parents have a light oak type kitchen - with no handles. They built their house about 20 years ago now and their cabinets were nasty dirty where they opened them! I worked on them for a long time to try to get them clean. I have no idea why they never put handles or knobs on!
